Development Services Director - Full Time $85,000-$95,000 per year:

The City of Grimes is seeking applicants for a Development Services Director. This is a new position that will report to the City Administrator and be responsible for developing and managing the City’s newly created Development Services Department, which will handle city planning, zoning administration and enforcement, permitting, development, code enforcement, and building inspections.

Top priorities for the position include, but will not be limited to, designing and managing systems to supervise and facilitate review, inspection and approval of all phases of private and public construction and improvement work to assure construction is completed in compliance with City of Grimes planning strategies, standards and specifications; zoning classifications; building plans; permitting; special requirements; and all related codes and regulations. The Development Services Director will also prepare, plan, regularly review and update the City’s comprehensive development plan; zoning, subdivision, and land use ordinances; zoning map; and capital improvement program.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, willing to be very hands on with the clerical and administrative tasks associated with carrying out the City’s Development Services functions, and be a capable and collaborative manager. A Bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, public administration OR geography, community development, sustainability, or similar field and related experience will be required. While equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered, the City seeks candidates with seven to ten years of experience and increasing responsibilities in city planning, permitting, development, or related roles.

The anticipated salary range is between $85,000 - $95,000/year plus IPERS and generous insurance benefits. Part-time GCC Facility Assistants- During school year, hours are a few weekdays from 3:30-5:30pm or as needed. Greeting/assisting people entering the GCC. Routine cleaning of rooms (trash, vacuum, dust) and helping set up tables/chairs for evening or weekend activities. Must be responsible and dependable and have ability to work on your own.  Wage starts at $8.50-$9.25/hr.

Part-time Program Assistants- Assist Program Supervisor in setting up/cleaning up from sports/programs, keeping score, etc for Youth Flag Football (Aug-Oct), Youth Volleyball (Sept-Oct), Youth Basketball (Dec/Jan), Adult Indoor Volleyball (Nov/Dec), Adult Men's Basketball (Jan-March). Assistants can be hired seasonally per program. Wage starts at $8.50-$9/hr.

Adult or Youth Program Supervisors- Looking for adults who can set-up and close-up after the programs.  Adult programming is on Wednesdays from 6-9pm (Includes CoEd VBall from Nov-Dec and Men's Basketball from Jan-March).  Pay is $15/hr.  Youth programming includes Saturday morning and afternoon basketball in December and January.  Ages 4-5 Basketball on Sunday afternoons from 3-6pm in January-February.  Pay is $12/hr.

FILLED- Part-time GCC Facility Supervisor-
Nights 5-8 or 9pm, Weekends 3-4 hour shifts)- For Adults, starts at $9.00-$9.50/hr
