Set Up New Service

Trash services are included when you set up your water bill as recycling and trash are included in your monthly water bill. To set up water service, please fill out this online form and contact City Hall with any questions at 515-986-3036.

Holiday Pickup Delay

Collection will be delayed one day for the following holidays when they occur during the week, not the weekend. For example, if New Year's Day occurs on a Sunday, collection will be on your normal day of Monday or Tuesday. If New Year's Day occurs on Monday, Monday collection will move to Tuesday, and Tuesday collection will occur on Wednesday. But if a holiday falls Wednesday - Sunday, collection will still occur on the normal days on Monday and Tuesday.

Missed Collection

If your pick-up is missed, or if you don't have a cart, please call the Metro Waste Authority at 515-244-0021.

Extra Trash

If you have more bags of trash than will fit in your can, they require an extra trash sticker that is $1. Stickers are available online, at local retailers, and at City Hall, which located at 101 NE Harvey Street, Grimes, IA 50111.

Large Items

Whether you are doing some spring cleaning or need to make room for something new, sometimes you have to get rid of items that are too big for your cart. Those items can be put out on your curb with a $5 large trash sticker(s).

Stickers are available for purchase online and at local retailers.

Appliances

You have a couple of options for disposing of appliances like a deep freeze, refrigerator, kitchen range, air conditioner, dehumidifier, water heater, furnace, washer/dryer, microwave, etc.

Option 1: Self-Haul It

You can load your appliance up and take it to Metro Park East Landfill in Mitchellville. If your appliance is smaller, such as a microwave or dehumidifier, you can also take it to Metro Hazardous Waste Drop-Off in Bondurant. When you self-haul your appliance, it can be recycled for $15 at either location.

Option 2: Get It Picked Up

To get your appliance picked up at your curb, purchase seven large item stickers and call Metro Waste Authority at 515-244-0021 to schedule collection.

Winter Bin Placement

During or after a snow event, please place containers in the driveway and not in the street. Containers left in the street could potentially be damaged by a snowplow and/or require snowplow drivers to park and leave their vehicles to move containers from their path. Thanks!
