During a snow ordinance (currently issued from 6 pm 1/8 to 6 pm 1/9), the city asks that you do not park on city streets. This is needed to help our plows clear the roads faster. City of Grimes snowplows have a front plow and a wing plow. When a vehicle is on the street, the plow driver has to take the time to raise the wing plow to navigate around the vehicle. Then, they lower the wing plow to pass the vehicle. This process slows them down significantly, meaning it takes longer to clear all the roads. Plows usually come down the street more than once during the snow ordinance, so it’s important not to park your car on the road during the whole time listed in the snow ordinance.
